Novotel & Ibis Hotels & Novotel Service Apartment, Fujairah
01/10/2009
GHI Formwork LLC got awarded the complete formwork supply for the 32-storey Novotel & Ibis Hotel and Novotel Service Apartment in Fujairah. After an evaluation period lasting three months, the client decided to use a mix of GHI vertical shutter systems and table slab formwork with swivel option for the prop support.
Three basements require single side formwork, which will be formed with TriTec wall shutter and SB Supporting Brace Frames for support. Curved sections will be shuttered with GHI’s all new Roundflex, adjustable to any radii above 1 meter. Roundflex will be used with SB support as well. Repeating structures such as core walls, staircases, shear walls and columns will be cast using Flex 50 timber beam formwork, which is compatible with the client’s existing own formwork system.
Maximum utilization of all system will be achieved through an accurate formwork planning. The TriTec framed wall formwork will be used, not only for the single side application, but also for stair walls (equipped with typical accessories). TriTec is very variable and fast to erect and to dismantle. The built- in stopend features of TriTec will make it even possible that panels from the Flex 50 system will be combined with TriTec, which is being used already in the basements.
Roundflex circular formwork will be supplied as ready to use panel system with built-in plywood. The different radii will be adjusted at site using ready-made timber templates, which also comes in easy to operate spindle system at the rear section. With the same built-in outer profile as TriTec and the APC (Alignment Panel Clamp), both systems will be used together in one pouring action.
While the slab layout is most suitable for Tableform system, large drop beams prevent the tables to be shifted out of the building. This barrier will be taken down by a GHI-proposed “second hand” table head solution with built-in swivel option for the props. The tables deflate to less than 1 meter and can be easily moved out of the building and shifted to the next floor. To tackle similar situations in the future, GHI will introduce its own table head with swivel option shortly.
To ensure safe working environment at the outer edges, CS240 will be used as working platforms and BR Shaft Platform “click-clack system” for shafts.
Choosing from different financial services offered by GHI, the client purchased all the required formwork, except for the Roundflex materials. Because these will be utilised on a short-term basis, the client opted to just hire the materials.
